Finding the time to read all the readings and dredge through some of the postings on Interact is more than challenging. I feel I've fallen behind and can't trawl through all the resources to find all the pertinent information with the ease I would like.
The readings are fascinating but I'm still struggling with the challenge of not having a physical tutorial. Being accustomed to attending tutorials where ideas would be exchanged within a finite time period I'm also used to then going away and taking stock before reaching conclusions about the relevance and importance of information.
I guess all I can do is think about my own experiences, which are unfortunately fairly limited when it comes to school libraries as I haven't experienced the great variety many people seem to have.
I think a well functioning library and efficient teacher librarian are seen as essential tools within my setting, but I do feel their efficacy is being eroded for instance with the implication of the student laptops.
The laptops give the students the feeling that high quality information is available at their fingertips and that a trip to a library and the primary resources that can be accessed there is old fashioned and not essential to their success as students.
I do feel funding for school libraries and the appropriate use of that funding is considered more essential to student success in Australia than the data in the Haycock reading on Canadian school libraries suggests.
I hope that with the appropriate training in and usage of emerging information technology by TLs the physical school library will continue to be seen as a key ingredient in the success of all students.
